Basic Pro/D Introduction Tutorials

Gears: Learn how to create some basic gears.

2D Drawings

Conical Dimensioning: Having problems doing 2D dimension drawings of curved or revolved objects?

Assemblies:This is a fantastic tutorial that teaches users about assemblies using lego bricks. The tutorial includes a zip file with over 20 pre-drawn lego blocks

Animations: Want to learn how to animate an assembly? Check out this SHORT and EASY tutorial that animates two blocks. This tutorial is sure to have you animating in no time.

Revolve: Learn how to do to a revolve by creating this cool funnel. This is a very short command exercise that will quickly explain how to make your first revolve

Sweep: Want to learn how to get a profile to extrude in a nonlinear fashion? This short command exercise will show you how

Lofting: Did the built in lofting tutorial confuse you. Want to complete complex smooth surfaces? Try our lofting command exercise to learn the basics of lofting.

Duplicate: There are two ways to use the duplication command. You can use it in sketches or you can use it in assemblies

Mirror Components/Designs: It is sometimes necessary to create parts that are mirror images of exsisting parts. Pro/D has two ways of doing this..learn how. (Tutorial by Mike Nelson)

Parent-Child Relationships: Want to learn how created features related to each other. See how a parent object can drive its children. This tutorial also includes a short lesson on projecting lines in sketches.

Splines, Intersections & Rounds: This tutorial shows how to draw splines, intersect extrusions and how to apply variable radius rounds. In the end you get a pretty cool looking mouse. This is a demo drawing that many other vendors like to do with their software.

Palettes: The palette is like a customizable toolbar where you can place commonly used sketches, features, and components so they can be conveniently dragged and dropped into the graphics pane of design and drawing file windows.

Design Rules: Learn how to apply simple design rules to the dimensions in your design. Make one dimension dependent on another through formulas or conditional statements. This tutorial is much better than the little bit you get in the Pro/D included tutorials. The tutorial also explains the advanced functionality in design rules.

Configurations:Configurations are a powerful way to look at multiple design layouts. Learn how easy it is to use and give users a pull down menu that automatically changes your design. This simple tutorial will demonstrate configurations by creating a simple square nut that can rapidly be changed to meet the users needs.

Excel Integration: Use excel to drive designs. This is very poorly explained in the Pro/D 2000i2 manual. The ProDesktop.net staff have rewritten the excel spreadsheet that drives the interaction. This new spreadsheet contains complete instructions on how to use this feature. We did such a great job rewriting the spreadsheet that PTC included our version with Pro/D 2001!

Transforming Sketches (rotating): In this tutorial you will create a twisted fan blade by rotating a sketch then lofting it. You must understand how to loft prior to doing this tutorial

Advanced Photo Album: The photo album option of Pro/D allows you to render surfaces will realistic materials. The built in imaging tutorial does a great job of teaching the basics. These tutorials are designed to show the advanced features of the photo album

AutoCAD--> Pro/D Design: Learn how to take a 2D AutoCAD (dxf or dwg) files and make a Pro/DESKTOP 3D design from it. This tutorial was provided by Bobbe Singer from Beyond the Board,Inc

Built in Tutorial Fixes: There are a few minor bugs in the Pro/D built in tutorials. These suggestions will help you avoid some pitfalls when completing the built in tutorials

Special: Manufacturing by Design was a British website that shutdown in the Spring of 2001. The site had 10+ tutorials for Pro/Desktop 2000i. The tutorials are a little old but they are still VERY VERY useful. The MFD tutorials were written by a team of British teachers. John Harris, an Educational Consultant in Britain, sent the tutorials to ProDesktop.net.
