| This
tutorial is a simple example make a feature via a revolve. The most
important thing to remember about a revolve is that the revolve axis
and revolve profile MUST be in SEPARATE sketches. |
|
- Start a new
design
- Set the Units
to inches
- In the object
browser, right click the base workplane and select New Sketch
- Name the
new sketch, Revolve Axis
- Draw a single
vertical line in the revolve axis sketch
- Dimension
the line 6"
The revolve
line does not need to be dimensioned. This is done here so that
the profile sketch of the funnel can quickly be drawn and be close
to the final dimensions
|
|
- In the object
browser, right click the base workplane again and select New Sketch
- Name the
new sketch, Funnel Profile.
- Create a
sketch as shown. Note that the 0.5" Dimension is based off
of the revolve axis. This will ultimately be the end of the funnel
radius.
|
 |
|
To create the
funnel the profile needs to make a shelled out cone. To do this,
you can offset the lines the thickness of the funnel
- Select both
of the lines
- Line>Offset
- Offset the
line -1/8"
- Click OK
|
|
|
Complete the
profile by connecting the top and bottom with straight lines. This
closes the profile
In the object
browser, right click the funnel profile sketch and select filled

If
the profile does not fill in then you have not properly closed the
profile. Look for openings or dangling lines
|
|
|
Now that the
funnel profile is complete, you can revolve the profile around the
axis to create the funnel
- Click Revolve
Feature

- Select the
funnel profile as the profile sketch
- Add Material
- Angle of
360 degrees
- Above the
workplane
- Select the
revolve axis as the sketch to use as axis
- Click OK
|
 |
- To complete
the funnel add some rounds to the top and bottom of the neck.
- Remember,
when doing revolves, the revolve axis must be in a separate sketch!
