Adding to the Palette

In this tutorial you will learn how to add your own sketches and features to the palette. You will also learn how to create new tabs in the palette and how to create you own user defined palette that can be shared with other users

Adding a Sketch to the Palette

Adding a sketch to the palette is very easy

  • In the graphics pane position the sketch the way you want it to appear in the palette
  • Select the palette tab you want the sketch to appear in
  • Right click the sketch in the object browser
  • Choose Add to Palette

If is best to fill the sketch to make it appear better in the palette (right click sketch, choose filled)

Everything about the sketch will be stored. Names, constraints etc..

Adding Features to the Palette

If you want to add a single feature to the palette:

  • In the graphics pane position the feature the way you want it to appear in the palette
  • Select the palette tab you want the feature appear in
  • Right click the feature name in the object browser
  • Choose Add to Palette

To add a multi-featured object to the palette:

  • Use the feature select tool and shift select all the features you want to add to the palette
  • Right click in the graphics pane and choose add to palette

Everything about the feature will be stored in the palette. Names, constraints etc..

Editing Palette Entry

Right clicking any palette icon brings up several options

  • Duplicate: Make a copy
  • Rename: Change the name
  • Delete: Remove it from the palette
  • Redefine on Drop: This is for features. If this is selected the feature definition pop box (extrusion, revolve etc..) will automatically open when the feature is dropped
  • Set Icon: Change the icon.
  • Properties: Add textual information to the palette

Many of these features are not active for objects that are built into the palette. When you make your own palette entries all of these options will be available.

Creating New Tabs

To create new tabs right click on a blank area in the palette

  • Select new folder
  • Enter the name of the new tab
  • To delete tabs, just select the tab to delete
  • Right click, delete folder

Creating a User Defined Palette

To create your own user defined palette you first need to create some new folders using windows explorer

  • In windows explorer create a new folder. Name the folder what you want to call the user defined palette (ie Steve's Palette)
  • Inside this new folder, create more new folders. The new folders inside will be the tabs of the user defined palette. (tab1, tab2 etc...)
  • In Pro/D, right click in an open space on the palette and chose User Palette Location
  • Browse out to you new folder (Steve's Palette)
  • Select OK

This folder can be given to other users and they can use it as their user define palette. This is very powerful for groups that need to quickly create the same objects over and over.
