Quick & Simple 2D Drawings

This tutorial will explain how to create quick 2D drawings from a 3D design using templates. It will also explain how to add simple dimensions and text to the drawing. In order to do this tutorial you must download and save simple.des.

  • In Pro/D open simple.des
  • Tools>New Drawing
  • Select the template in the upper right hand corner. (A2 size with three views in First Angle Projection)
  • Use the exsisting design for the drawing
  • Make sure simple.des is selected

  • To add a simple linear dimension use the linear dimension tool
  • Select the left side of the simple object on the plan view, then click and drag from the right side to create leader lines and the dimension.
  • Use the select annotation tool
  • Double Click the actual dimension. This will pop up the properties for that dimension annotation. You can change the units under the number tab and the size of the annotation under the text tab.
  • Set the units to inches and make the text .25 inches in height.
  • You can also use the select annotation tool to move the dimension around. Just click-n-drag.

  • Use the Raidal Dimension tool to dimension the hole and the round.
  • Use the diametric dimension tool as another way of dimensioning the hole.
  • Use the Angular dimension tool to dimension the angle on the chamfer.
  • Use the select annotation tool to change the units to inches and the text height to .25 inches.

  • You can add notes attached to things by using the Note Tool
  • Remember, you can double click anything with the select annotations tool to change its properties.
  • You can also click-n-drag things with the annotation tool.

  • Zoom in on the title block in the lower right hand corner
  • View>Zoom>Box in the title block
  • Add a title by using the text tool
  • Shift-Click in the title area to create a note that does not have a leader line.
